Assuming a much more significant role, APLI is collaborating with the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) in the United States, the European Union (especially the EU-PRC Intellectual Property Rights Cooperation Programme), the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office, the Peking University Law School/College of Intellectual Property and several key institutions in China in the organization of International Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights and Information Technology Protection in China on May 9 and 10, 2000 at the new Library Annex Conference Room, Peking University.  This seminar will build upon the two very successful conferences/workshops in Chongqing and Shanghai co-organized by the Asia Pacific Legal Institute in 1998 and 1999.  The objective of this conference is to engage top officials, professionals and scholars from China, Europe and North America in practical discussions of some of the most challenging issues facing the world intellectual property community today, such as protection over information and biotechnology, e-commerce related topics, intellectual property management (technology transfer, licensing, and value assessment), enforcement, etc., to look at the TRIPs Agreement and beyond.  This is a national forum designed to provide a comprehensive dialogue among top international participants to learn from each other and to build a long term, continuous forum as such in the future.
