This year, we are very proud to have two of the most respected patent specialists and scholars in the world, The Honorable Randall R. Rader, Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and Professor Martin J. Adelman, Director of the Intellectual Property Law Program of the George Washington University Law School, offering a whole week of advanced patent courses tackling some of the most pressing challenges the world is facing today. In addition, this year's program will focus on technology transfer and e-commerce related issues. The program indeed very appreciate their ardent support and will maintain its tradition of getting the highest possible caliber of speakers.
In collaboration with the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR), and to continue
the successful conferences and
workshops organized in Chongqing in 1998, the Asia
Pacific Legal Institute will once again organize
a Workshop on Sino-U.S. Intellectual Property Protection,
this time for the Chinese southeast region. This workshop is based on
and expanded from a mock trial APLI organized in 1995 during a delegation
visit to the Chinese Southwest University of Political Science and Law
in Chongqing, China and will involve a significant local participation with
speakers and trainers from the highest caliber. The goal
of this training program is to further
enhance the awareness of better protection of intellectual property rights and
explore many practical challenges, both procedural
and substantive, that confront the current legal system in China, the
United States and elsewhere in the world. More than
200 senior government officials, judges, administrators, professionals
and graduate students are expected to participate. The president and executive director of the Asia Pacific Legal Institute are invited to deliver two major reports on the development of a sound legal infrastructure for technology transfer and implementation of the Technology Progress Law and Technology Results Transfer Law. As a part of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) projects, this conference is co-sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and the China International Centre for Economic and Technical Exchanges.
The Asia Pacific Legal Institute is invited to participate two critical meetings of this major intellectual property group in China, including the delivery of a keynote speech and the planning of the Society's 9th Biennial National Conference.
